VMWARE

Summary

Vmware sought to take the cloud by storm in 2018, commissioning me with a mission: creating an unparalleled end-to-end experience for their groundbreaking Virtual Data Centers and Services. I was tasked with crafting a majestic introduction of these innovative solutions - no small feat!

Role & responsibilities

As a UX Lead Designer, I was responsible to design an intuitive cloud platform through hands-on work, such as creatng wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes, as well as conducting usability testing, and collaboration with stakeholders. I established design guidelines for consistency and evangelized the impact of user-centered design.

Problems to solve

Following an evaluation of Vmware's virtual services, it was evident that they lacked consistency in appearance and functionality. Through the user journey exercise, the direction became clear:
"How might we design a cohesive and streamlined onboarding experience for the Vmware cloud platform that allows for seamless application building, running, managing, and connecting, while addressing the current disparate appearance and functionality of virtual services and serving both new and existing customers?"

Hypothesis

Designing a cohesive and streamlined onboarding experience for the Vmware cloud platform could lead to increased customer satisfaction, engagement, adoption rates, and revenue growth."

Designing by using user scenarios

I utilized user scenario mapping to prioritize my efforts toward simplifying the onboarding process by redesigning key services within the platform. The goal was to provide our customers with a seamless joining experience.

Usability Testing

I conducted a usability test on the onboarding design experience with 10 users to validate the usability and ease of use for the sign-up and authentication process, obtain feedback on the end-to-end workflow of user, organization, and role management, and ensure consistent and seamless user experience and quality across product environments.

The SUS score result was positive, with a score of 7.8 out of 8 on the scale, indicating a high level of usability. Only minor tweaks are needed.

Impact

In 2017, VMware Cloud was launched at Vm World, marking a milestone in the company's history. It enables customers to run VMware apps on the Cloud without the need for new hardware or app modifications. My work has contributed to the company's leadership position as a cloud platform provider.
